Grounding refers to a physical and spiritual practice of connecting your body with the earth and environment around you. There are numerous physical and psychological benefits including:
Reduced inflammation
Better sleep quality due to regulated circadian rhythms
Stress and pain reduction – many people have claimed to have less muscle tension and lower stress levels after grounding, prompting a sense of calm and relaxation.
Improved immune function, heart health and overall healing have been linked to grounding.
How do you ground yourself?
Walking barefoot, sitting or lying on natural surfaces like grass, soil and sand allows for a transfer of electrons from the earth to your body!
If you can’t access natural surfaces easily, grounding mats are also an option. They are designed to specifically mimic this direct earth contact.
Being submerged into natural waters like rivers and oceans can provide a similar therapeutic effect.
Lastly, another great and convenient way to feel grounded is to work in the garden. Be it planting flowers, weeding or pruning - any contact with the natural environment is sure to improve your overall well-being and state of being.
Additional techniques to emphasize the benefits of grounding
Touching Trees: Holding or leaning against a tree can provide grounding benefits.
Earthing Exercises: Practices like Tai Chi and Qigong that emphasize connection with the earth can also help ground you.
Do your best to be consistent, by making one or part of the above techniques a part of your regular routine. Be sure to choose a safe and clean environment.
Incorporating grounding practices into your daily routine can contribute significantly to your overall health and well-being, providing both immediate and long-term benefits.
